Rochester's Roses Are Red don't just have a knack for alliteration. This quintet of New York natives also has a certain penchant for weaving hard rock with elegant melodies creating the explosive combination found on their Trustkill Records debut "Conversations." Though it swells with tales of heartbreak and loss, the album has the energy of punk with catchy hooks and driving anthemic choruses. Decibel called "Conversations" "slippery and wet and these guys ride the steel horse like it's 1987."
Though the band's average age hovers around twenty-one, the years since their inception in 2002 has seen the band sign to Trustkill Records and play nationwide and European tours. The band's live show, replete with mid-air leaps, spins and high kicks, earned them a slot playing on Underoath's entire European tour. The invitation was extended to the band after the drummer for The Hurt Process (who also played on that tour) heard Roses Are Red's album and was so blown away by what he heard, he called vocalist Vincent Minervino and asked them to join the tour. The band has also been out with Millencolin, Emery, Boys Night Out, From First to Last, The Plain White T's, The Matches and Story of the Year. As a testament to the vigor they bring to their live show, the band has sustained multiple injuries including shattered bones from flying mics and hurled instruments. However, there is no stopping the band's commitment to a solid live show and audiences have consistently shown their gratitude. Audiences of 500+ turned out for shows on recent tours including the most recent with Boys Night Out. In one instance in North Dakota, the audience there sang along to songs from Roses Are Red's album though it had yet to be released! The band's debut video for their song "White and Gold" is an accurate indicator of the fervor the band inspires in their fans with equal parts dancing, thrashing and singing from band and kids alike. Look for a new video to hit soon by renowned director Darren Doane (Deftones, Thursday, Poison The Well).
The band, made up of singer Minervino, guitarists Matthew and Brian Gordner, drummer Michael Lasaponara and new bassist Brad Gilboe, have also taken the show to New Jersey's Bamboozle Fest and will storm stages on a string of dates on the Warped Tour this summer. The band's disarming mix of onstage appeal and personal charm has continued to win them accolades in the press. Alternative Press recently featured the band in a "Low Profile" and Revolver photographed the band for their pictorial feature "Clothes Make The Band." |
