Punk rock fans Bob Darling and Nic Newhams weaned themselves on melodic punk revivalists like Lagwagon and Propaghandi until they decided to start a band together. Drafting in bassist Kirk Huffman and drummer Dustin McGhye, the band christened themselves Gatsby's American Dream and attempted to start a rock band. Teaming with producer Aaron Sprinkle, the group recorded Why We Fight in the spring of 2002 for a summer release. GAD returned in July 2003 with Ribbons and Sugar, released through the fledgling Washington indie Rocketstar. The album was a concept piece inspired by George Orwell's book Animal Farm. The band toured through most of the spring and summer in support of the release. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide |
